About These Plates

These plates feature over 26mm of total camber adjustment (16mm negative/7.5mm positive), with the ability to make corrective caster changes to equalize side-to-side caster in the stock position.

Other features include replaceable waterproof German axial load bearings, and urethane bushings for long life, less deflection, and a smooth silent ride on either stock springs, lowering springs, or 2.5"" racing springs.

These plates are also engraved with an arched Ground Control logo which can be used to easily re-center the plate in the stock position for easy, repeatable, adjustment from street to track and back.

All components are anodized or zinc plated for corrosion resistance.

Installation Notes: Torque camber plate mounting nuts to 18ft/lbs using properly calibrated torque wrench. DO NOT USE PNEUMATIC TOOLS.

The Positives of Negative Camber

If you enjoy driving your car in a direction other than straight, you'll feel the beneifits of negative camber immediately on your first drive after installation. Dialing-in negative camber increases your tire's contact patch during cornering, which means more grip, less outer tire wear, and ultimately, faster lap times. And these beneifts aren't just limited to track use, you'll notice them every time you drive your favorite on-ramp or mountain road. We can go on for days about the benefits of negative camber, and we do! Check out our technical article.

Recommended For

If you enjoy your car predominantly on the street, these plates are for you. These are ideal for those who carve back country roads, push their luck on the occasional freeway on-ramp, or attend a few autocross or high performance driving events (HPDEs) per year. They use a urethane bushing instead of a solid metal bearing to support the strut, so they transmit far less noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) vs. the Race plates. If you want negative camber without the metal-on-metal suspension feel, these are right for you. Street plates are the only Ground Control camber plates that are compatible with OEM style springs for this chassis. You can also configure these to work with coilover style springs, using the dropdown menus above. The Race plates on the other hand, cannot use an OEM style spring perch. You can choose between OEM, 60mm, 2.25" and 2.5" spring perches to work with any coilover kit on the market. Street plates have a more limited operating range for camber and caster adjustments because of the space required to incorporate the urethane bushing, but the camber attainable with these plates is enough for the street-oriented driver.

These plates can be set to run more negative camber all the time, or you can work with your alignment shop and mark the plates, so you can quickly adjust between a daily driver friendly alignment and your more aggressive alignment. Just jack up one corner, loosen the plate, slide it to your mark, and then tighten everything back up.

If you know you'll be going to the track more frequently, you may consider a Race plate up front to ensure your ability to dial in negative camber is not limited in the future. As your skills progress, you'll graduate to more aggressive tire compounds, which will require more aggressive negative camber. Race plates will give you a broader range of adjustability, more direct road feel, with the small trade-off of increased NVH. If that sounds more like you, then we suggest you check out Ground Control Race Camber Plates for BMW E9X M3 & Non-M and E82/E88 1 Series.

Why Ground Control?

Ground Control has been building world-class street, autocross/track, and full road race suspension setups since the 1980s. From camber plates and adjusters, to complete bolt-on coilover kits, Ground Control has designed and built setups for hundreds of different chassis and applications. All Ground Control camber plates feature a proprietary bearing, made to their specs by Aurora in the USA, which allows for articulation of the shock shaft. These spherical bearings are very understressed, as the Ground Control design does NOT support the weight of the car on the spherical bearing. Instead, the weight of the car is supported by a completely separate articulating needle bearing, which is also manufactured for Ground Control in the USA.
